At Eagle Point Farm, young racing prospects respond
to the guidance of dedicated, caring professionals who mesh the most
up-to-date techniques with time-honored methods of caring for and
conditioning young thoroughbreds. Eagle Point Farm is a sanctioned
training center.
All horses will be given the basics in one of two breaking
pens. Time is spent in the fields teaching the young horses to do
figure 8's, small circles and other field maneuvers to build their
mobility, wind, and muscles. Experienced riders will take the horses
through the necessary stages to build a foundation so they can handle
the rigors of training. On the track, the horses learn how to change
leads, gallop in close contact with other horses, and experience dirt
flying in their faces. The horses receive head-to-head education on
our safe, composition sand and dirt, 4-1/2 furlong track. Our horses
receive schooling in our electric starting gates beginning with walking
through the gates, standing in the gates, locking the front and back
gates, and then breaking them out in company with a bell. In addition
published works are available. The finished product is a fit and confident
horse.
The feeding program at Eagle Point Farm is a well balanced
diet, which includes alfalfa mixed hay, quality grain from Southern
States Feed, and a vitamin/mineral supplement.
All immunizations are kept up-to-date including worming and flu-rhino
shots which the horses receive every 60 days. Twice a year, an equine
dentist examines their teeth.
The horses owners receive monthly reports and have the
security of knowing their valuable stock is quartered in a first rate
44 stall
training barn, situated on 200 acres of Virginia's finest horse farm
land. The pastures are tested yearly for fertilizer and lime requirements.
In addition to Karen and Donna Dennehy's supervision, a veterinary
equine clinic and farrier are on call 24 hours a day.
